Obituary of Susan D. Shaw

Susan W. Shaw, age 65, of Elmira, passed away on January 22, 2025 after her battle with the terrible ALS disease. She is survived by her husband, David T. Shaw of Elmira; son, Christopher Shaw and his wife Angela of Corning; and son, Jonathan Shaw of Elmira. Aela Shaw, Finnian Shaw, Ethan Race, Noah Shaw and Harper Shaw are Susan's much-loved grandchildren. Sue was born Susan Diane Wheeler on December 21, 1959. She was the daughter of the late Ladrue and Gladys (Whitney) Wheeler of Jackson Summit, PA. The Wheeler family includes: sister, Helen (deceased) and her son Tony; brother, Gary (deceased) and his wife, Emma; brother, William and his wife Susan; and sister, Laurie Clark. There are also many nieces and nephews. Sue graduated from Williamson High School in 1977 and was active in the sports of basketball, volleyball and track and field. After graduation she played slow pitch softball for a number of years on teams in the Elmira area. Sue's extended Shaw family includes: father-in-law, Elton F. Shaw (deceased) and mother-in-law, Helen (Kittle) Shaw (deceased); brother-in-law, Elton F. Shaw, Jr. (deceased) and sister-in-law, Nancy Shaw; Elton's children: Robert Shaw and Christina Shaw; brother-in-law, Patrick J. Shaw and sister-in-law Gail (Morse) Shaw (deceased) and their family: daughter, Amy Squires and husband, Dana; their children Rachel and Rebecca; son Brooks Shaw and wife, Courtney; their children Lauren and Olivia; son Joseph Shaw and wife, Christen; their children Joe Jr. and Riley; and daughter, Colleen Wintermute and husband, Matthew. Sue loved and cherished her family; she treasured friends: Sissi, Paula and Deb, and enjoyed the conversations that she had with her neighbors. She loved sitting on the front porch and seeing her neighbors going about their day. For those who feel led, donations to the ALS Association to aid in their research, or to the local Food Bank to help those in need would be greatly appreciated. Sue's presence will be greatly missed by family and friends.
