Obituary of Lucy Starry
STARRY, Lucy M.
Age 94 of Elmira, NY. She was born October 26, 1919 in Elmira, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Gallucci) Menechella and passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 peacefully at home after an extended illness. She was predeceased by her husband Harold "Shorty" Starry in 1996; brothers Rocco and Cosmo; sisters Celeste, Josephine, and Lena; and her grandson Ian Fisher. She is survived by her daughters and sons -in-law Mary Lou and James Bly of Rome, NY, Linda and Joseph Anastasi of Columbus, OH, Kathleen Murray of Elmira, Marguerite and Dr. Kevin Seaman of Millersville, MD; grandchildren Michael (Cindy) Bly, Joseph Bly, James (Sarah) Bly, Sarah Anastasi-Fisher, Lucy Anastasi, Joseph Anastasi, Olivia Anastasi, Matthew Murray, Antonia Murray, Elizabeth Seaman, Nicholas Seaman and Patrick Seaman; great grandchildren Micah, Leah and Brandon; sister Theresa Menechella; brother-in-law Harry Pryslak and sister-in-law Sylvia Beebe all of Elmira along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Starry was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish attending St. Anthony's Church. She was always devoted to her family; from taking care of her parents, husband and siblings to doting on her grandchildren. She was there for every event, from birthdays, First Communions to college graduations. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, March 7th from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Saturday, March 8th at 9:30 am, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Patrick's Church. Rev. Walter L. Wainwright, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may remember Lucy through donations to the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 State Rt. 352, Elmira, NY 14903 or Strayhaven, 194 Shepard Rd., Waverly, NY 14892. Lucy's family gives a special thank you to Karen Brusso, her niece, for her constant care, allowing Lucy to remain in her own home.
