Obituary of Lloyd S. Mapp

MAPP, Lloyd S. Age 85 of Horseheads, NY passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 unexpectedly at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was predeceased by his son Lloyd Powell, parents Garfield L. Mapp and Bernice Lowe; brothers Gary, Alfred and George Mapp; sisters Elaine Lovell and Bernice Robertson; aunt Cynthia Alleyne and is survived by his wife Juanita (Coleman) Mapp; children Esther L. (Curtis) Williams of Warrior, AL, Lloyd S. (Diane) Mapp, Jr., Valerie J. (Jimmy Moultrie) Mapp-Moultrie and Shelia (Patrick Romain) Gay-Robbins all of Brooklyn, NY, Renee Cairo of Richmond, KY, Eugene (Sorida) Figueroa of Bronx, NY, Sam (Shelia) Thompson of Elmira, Reginald E. Mapp of Brooklyn, NY, Robin I. (Dennis) Mapp-Biles of Dallas, TX, Michael Gay of Birmingham, AL, Marla L. (James, Jr.) Morgan of Lexington, KY and Kelli (Robert) Hickey of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Curtrice L. Williams, Robert L. Williams, Damon L. (Desire) Mapp, Neil (Justina) Mapp, Quanda E. Morgan. Hope Staton, Anna Lis Lewis, Naomi Lewis, Samuel R. Lewis, Hasani Robbins-Dallas, Brooklyn Dottin and Samara Dottin; siblings Melvin D. Mapp of Little River, SC, Edward (Teresa) Mapp of Atlanta, GA, Vernon (Janice) Mapp of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia D. (Horace) McCollin of Greer, SC, Joyce T. Johnson of Brooklyn and Sharon Mapp of Georgetown, SC; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Mapp was an active member and Steward of Frederick Douglass Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Korea; a member of the American Legion Post 442, Horseheads, Elmira-Corning NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, NY Civil Liberties Union, Chemung County Democratic Committee and was a math tutor at E.O.P. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Sunday, May 4th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. His funeral will be held on Monday, May 5th at 12 pm in Frederick Douglass Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 402 Madison Ave., Elmira. Rev. Michael D. Bell will officiate. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
