Obituary of Michael John Phillips

PHILLIPS, Michael John Age 39 of Elmira Heights, NY. He was born November 22, 1974 in Elmira, NY, son of John and Eugenia (Homerda) Phillips and passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 unexpectedly at home. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Dmytro and Jaroslawa Homerda and paternal grandparents Duane and Helen Phillips. He is survived by his sons Seamus and Dylan; his parents John and Eugenia of Elmira Heights; siblings John and Jennifer Phillips with son Matthew of Ellettsville, IN, Kimberly and Andrew Fielding with son Brandon Burt of Glenville, NY, Melissa and David Noonan with children David and Ava of Pine City along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael was a Corrections Officer at the Elmira Correctional Facility. He was a standout athlete at Edison High School in baseball, football and wrestling and once achieved a 3 second pin in a high school tournament. He enjoyed NASCAR, fantasy football with friends and family and was a NY Yankee fan. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking. His smile was infectious and he had a heart of gold. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, November 25th from 4 to 7 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26th at 10 am in St. Mary's Church. Rev. Richard Farrell, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
