Obituary of Barbara Lee Murphy

MURPHY, Barbara Lee Age 70. Born in Sayre, PA on October 30th, 1944 to the late Richard and Lillian (Deubler) Hulslander and passed away on Monday, November 24th, 2014. Barbara graduated from Odessa-Montour CS in 1962 and immediately went to work at Hardinge, Inc. She was employed in positions of increasing levels of responsibility until her retirement. She coached a Junior Achievement group during her time with Hardinge and also attended many of the company's retiree functions. Barbara was a member of the Elmira Heights BPW, Elmira Heights American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, communicant of the former St. John's Episcopal Church. An enthusiastic baker (like her mother) and cook, Barbara once tried her hand at full time catering. She was always good at turning a phrase; after her retirement she co-authored a life story for one of her dear friends. Barbara was a caring, giving person with a special sense of style. She had great concern for family members and friends, and they responded in like manner. Although sometimes presented with stumbling blocks and disappointments, she looked ahead with fortitude. She leaves: brothers; David (Nancy) Hulslander of Horseheads, and Carl (Jan) Watkins of Athens, her nephew and three nieces and their families, dear cousins, a number of loving friends and "nearbys" which include Diane Gormly, Rita Buckbee, and Jen Grover (all of whom were particularly helpful in recent months), along with her remaining feline companions. Barbara's family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the nursing staff of the ICU, 2B, and 4B at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center as well as to the CareFirst representatives. Family and friends are invited to the Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake Street at Washington Avenue, on Tuesday, December 2nd from 1 pm to 2pm with a memorial service following at 2pm. Her committal and interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your nearby animal shelter or the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program of the Southern Tier., P.O. Box 543, Horseheads, NY 14845
