Obituary of Edna L. Love

Edna Leontine Pannell Love Edna L. Pannell Love was born November 21, 1927 in Beckley, West Virginia to the late Letlo Walter Pannell and Sciotia Melissa Robertson Pannell. She was the sixth of nine children. Edna began her educational journey in Beckley, WV. While attending the Beckley School System, Edna gave her life to Christ at the New Hope Baptist Church. She continued to live her life as a woman of virtue that would be pleasing to God. In 1940, Edna's parents moved the family to Canton, Pennsylvania where she attended the Canton School District, and then later, her parents returned the family to Beckley, WV. After graduating from Stratton High School in Beckley, WV, Edna married the late James Calvin Love, Sr. in 1946. They were married for 52 years. From this union, five children were born: James C. Jr., Charles E. (Sandra); Barbara L. Postell; Ernest R. (Brenda); and Norman E. Love; eight grandchildren: Amber M. Love-Jones (Jeffrey); Tonya L., Christopher C., Dreaux L. Love; Marchon T. (Krystal), Nicole L. Postell; Todd A. Love; and Brandon R. Love; and three great-grandchildren: Niles J. Jones; Nia S. and Amari K. Postell. In 1960, Edna and Calvin moved their family to Elmira, NY where they settled. Edna joined the Monumental Baptist Church and then later became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years. Edna worked tirelessly; serving in whatever capacity needed and became very deserving as "Mother Love" to the St. Paul Missionary Church membership. Edna decided to continue her education by enrolling and attending Elmira College where she studied early childhood education. She worked for Westinghouse for many years. She then obtained employment with the Elmira City School District as a Teaching Assistant educating and nurturing elementary students at Diven Elementary School until she retired in 1983. She was an excellent role model. Many would agree that Edna Love had a heart of gold. Her generous, kind and compassionate personality made you feel at ease in her presence. She enjoyed baking, entertaining friends, working in her yard, and she thoroughly enjoyed bowling often winning numerous trophies. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her first cousin and Pannell Patriarch: Eldred Pannell and family; nieces: Elizabeth Reed, Linda Condon, Geraldine Parker; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-Christ and family friends who loved her dearly.
