Obituary of Edith Caroscio
Caroscio, Edith (Mom, "Mumsie")
Edith Manocchio Caroscio, 96, passed away on December 24th at home surrounded by her family. Edith was the last surviving child of Gabriel and Giovina Manocchio. She was predeceased by her husband William J. Caroscio in 1988. Edith is survived by her children: Mary Ann Caroscio, William (Pam) Caroscio, Giovina Caroscio, Margaret (Ted) Bergh, Thomas (Eileen) Caroscio, and Annette C. Averitt. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Karen (Tommy) Allen, Elizabeth (Jesse) McKinley, Frank, Maria, and Rebecca Bergh and Great grandchildren: Will and Bryce Allen, Grace, Dillon, Aidan, and Tucker McKinley. Edith was pre-deceased by her son-in-law, Bruce Averitt; her brother, Dominic Manocchio and sisters: Celia Lisi, Josephine Rocchi, Rose Tournour, Anne, Marietta, and Jeanette Manocchio. Edith is survived by her sister-in-law Dorene Caroscio Novick, Godchild Judy Limoncelli Roy, and many nieces and nephews. As a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament (St. Anthony) Parish and the Sacred Heart Ladies Society, Edith lived her faith every day in every circumstance. It was especially evident in her gift of hospitality. She was happiest serving her family and friends a meal around her kitchen table or delivering a batch of her pizzelles to someone. Mumsie was an inspiration to all who had the privilege to know her. Her family is most thankful to special friends, Rosie and Chris Ewanyk for their love and support for Mom, Teresa Tiberia for providing caring assistance during the past few months, and to Dr. Dominic Romeo for extending himself to the family for Mom's care. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Monday, December 29th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Tuesday, December 30th at 9:45 am, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 161 High St., Elmira. Rev. Richard Farrell, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Family will provide flowers.
