Obituary of Doris M. Jackson

Jackson, Doris M. December 8, 1944, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Ben and Jeanette Jackson, of McRoberts, Kentucky who predeceased her in 2005. Doris relocated to Elmira from Kentucky and spent her adult life in areas of service to agencies and to humanity. Doris proudly participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure each year in the 5 K Walk after her diagnosis. Doris was an energetic and disciplined walker at Eldridge Park where she made many friends as she completed her daily five mile walk. During her walking routine last May, as part of the city-wide fitness promotion, Doris was one of the citizens who found a "gold shoe." For several years Doris was an avid bowler, and served as the secretary of a local bowling team. Doris retired in 2013 from Kennedy Valve Manufacturing Company with 37 years of service. She was previously employed by American LaFrance, Elmira City School District, and she was a vocalist on the weekends at Green Pastures during the 1970's. She was a faithful member of the Faith Temple Sanctuary Choir and numerous church ministries. Doris was the meticulous and dedicated caretaker of the campus and properties of Faith Temple Community Church. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son Marvin (Darlene), of Elmira, and daughter Lisa of Cleveland, four grandchildren, LaMar, Brittany, Joshua, and Samantha; sisters, Flordia and Dr. Wilma Hughey, and Sarah Meadows (Jerry) of Kentucky; brothers Ben (Christine) of Alabama, and Willie (Denise), several uncles and aunts, dear and beloved cousins, and a host of friends. The memorial service commemorating Doris' life and legacy will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1:00PM Faith Temple Community Church. The Rev. Sam O. Pulliam will officiate. At Doris' request interment will be in Kentucky at the convenience of the family.
