Obituary of Amelia R. Nichols

Nichols, Amelia "Milly" (Lambo) Amelia "Milly" (Lambo) Nichols, 85, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend left this earthly life to go on to her eternal home on April 27th, 2015. Milly was born in Canastota, New York, on August 4th, 1929 to John and Amelia (Minavio) Lambo. Milly spent her youth in Canastota, then just prior to WWII, the family moved to Syracuse, NY. Milly attended North High School and worked for the telephone company. In 1952 she married her childhood sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Nichols (deceased, 1998), and together they raised their family in Elmira. Family, faith, music, and cooking were everything to Milly. She was happiest when spending time eating and drinking with relatives and friends. So many of us have wonderful memories singing along while Mil played the piano. Many of you will remember "Markert and Milly in the Morning," a fun radio talk show with Milly sharing her recipes on Fridays. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse and St. Cecilia Church, Elmira. Milly spent many years happily volunteering her time and energy to both church and school. She was employed at St. Cecilia Church and Van Brunt Motors, Elmira. Milly had four loving sisters, Rosa Stark (deceased), Marie Russo, Angela McClain, and Joanne Schumann (deceased). Also surviving are her five children, Ellen Nichols (Gary Wodnick) of Rochester, NY, Richard H. Nichols (Karen Durkin) of Newark, NY, Christine (Brian Walsh) of Baldwinsville, NY, James Nichols (Meredith DuPuy) of Asheville, NC, and John Nichols of Rochester, NY.; 13 grandchildren, Amy, Richard J. (Natasha), Maria, and Brian Nichols, James Walsh, Philip Petrosky, Kenneth Witter (Lindsey), Graham and Nola Nichols, Matthew, Joshua, Daniel and Elizabeth Morano; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Witter and Ella Nichols; and several nieces and nephews. Please join us in celebrating Milly's life. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 29th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pirro & Sons Funeral Home, 1500 Park St. (corner of Court Street and Park Street) Syracuse, NY 13208 and Thursday, April 30th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Walter J.
