Obituary of Charles T. Coleman
COLEMAN, Charles Torrence Sr.
Age 64, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015. He was the eldest child and only son of Floyd Winston Coleman Jr. and the late Sarah (Rosie) Coleman, born on October 25, 1950 in Elmira, NY. He is survived by his daughter Denise Hatchett of Hamburg, AR; son in love John (Darius) Garvin of Elmira, NY; daughter Michelle Coleman of Rochester, NY; son Charles (Tory) Coleman Jr. of Charlotte, NC; daughter and son-in-law Joy & Corry Brannen of Charlotte, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law Cathleen & Norman McConney of Albany, NY, Charlene & Elijah Joe of Elmira, NY; uncle and aunt Roland & Mildred Coleman of Elmira, NY; granddaughters Quawaysia, Tatayana, Nate', Emersyn, Makayla and Korry; grandsons Antonio, TyQuan, Darius, Evan and Jeremiah; great-grandsons A'Xavion and Ethan; great-granddaughter Amiyah, special friend Shirley (Doll) Thomas, along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends. He is predeceased by his cousin and close friend Rocky Coleman. Charles, born and raised in Elmira, was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching all sports but was especially fond of his favorite teams the Dallas Cowboys and the Syracuse Orangemen. He competed as an amateur boxer and worked as a baseball referee. A huge supporter of local high school sports, he often attended games even after his children and grandchildren had graduated. Following in the footsteps of his father, Charles was a longtime member of the Elks. He enjoyed spending time at the Elks and traveling to conferences with his fellow brethren. Charles was a modern day foodie and enjoyed dinners out with family and friends. Charles leaves behind many memories to be cherished by his loved ones who will deeply miss him. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Sunday, September 27th from 5 to 7 pm. Elks memorial service will be held at 6 pm. His funeral service will be held Monday, September 28th at 11 am at the funeral home Rev. Michael Bell, will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
