Obituary of Albert Salois

SALOIS, Albert Joseph, Sr. Age 82, a longtime resident of Elmira Heights. He was born September 24, 1933 in Montreal, Canada, son of the late Cyprien Joseph and Helen (Kozdranski) Salois and passed away early Sunday, November 15, 2015, unexpectedly. Al was predeceased by his son Patrick Eugene in 1997 and is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Ann (Stuart) Salois; children Albert Joseph (Eleanor), Jr. of Granbury, TX, Kathy (Michael) Kelly of Horseheads and Amy (Stephen) Doud of Elmira. Al and Pat have 6 grandchildren living local and around the country, 5 great-grandchildren, and one more great-grandchild due in December. Al, an immigrant of Montreal, Canada, served his beloved new country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 154 in Elmira Heights and a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Parish. When Al moved to Elmira, he worked for the Orange Car and after his military service worked for Hills Bakery, American Dry Cleaners, Schuler Potato Chips, Rust-Oleum and UGL in salesman/route capacities. Al's hobbies and loves included playing cards and helping with Bingo at St. Charles Borromeo Church. He also enjoyed fascinating his grandchildren with card tricks and storytelling, plus getting his "fair share" of food from all the kids and grandkids plates. It was also reported Al/Papa spent much of his time flirting with the ladies. In general, Al shared a smile with everyone and was everyone's friend. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, November 19th from 5 to 6:30 pm. His funeral service will follow at 6:30 pm. Interment will take place in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Al through donations to the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903.
