Obituary of Joseph F. Cavallaro

CAVALLARO, Joseph F. Founder of the Joe Cavallaro's Dixieland Jazz Band Age 75 of Elmira, NY. He was born March 3, 1940 in Elmira, son of the late Michael and Henrietta (Sciorra) Cavallaro and passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 suddenly. He is survived by his children Michael (Janeen), Anthony (Joanne), Ann Marie (Luke), Joe (Sue) all of Maryland and David (Tina) of Corning; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and loving companion Karen Rohde. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at Moore Business Forms until its closing and currently with Capabilities for the last 28 years. Joe enjoyed operating the Eldridge Park Carousel and was a proud co-coordinator of the Michelob Twin Tiers Jazz Festival. He will mostly be remembered as a talented, revered musician who gave back to his beloved community. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Sunday, November 22nd from 2 to 6 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 23rd at 12 noon in St. Patrick's Church. Rev. Richard Farrell, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Joe through donations to the Arctic League, P.O.
