Obituary of Charles F. Hall

HALL, Charles F. Age 92 of Elmira, NY. He was born July 25, 1923 in Elmira, son of the late Archibald and Mary (Holleran) Hall and passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at Bethany Manor after a brief illness. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all of his siblings and their spouses; brother's George (Mora), Dick (Marge), Bob (Muriel) and Jay (Veronica) Hall; sister Mary (Junker) Johnston. He is survived by several nieces and nephews including Mike and Marge Johnston of Elmira and dear friends Dennis, Debbie, Jeremy (Carmella), Josh, Maria, Mollie and Sarah Peck of Lowman along with many friends, players and coaches. Charlie was a lifelong communicant of St. Cecilia's Church, currently Blessed Sacrament, where he faithfully attended daily Mass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving during WWII; was a member of the B.P.O.E. 62, Elmira; was co-owner of "Chuck & Junkers" soda shop and retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. Charlie was involved with sports all his life. Starting in the 40's, he played amateur softball then coached and refereed, spanning 50 years. He was inducted into the Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame for softball and basketball, officiating basketball and as a contributor. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, February 17th from 5 to 8 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Thursday, February 18th at 9:30 am followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Rev. Walter Wainwright, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
