Obituary of Harvey McDonnell

McDONNELL, Harvey N., Sr. Harvey N. McDonnell, Sr., 88, loving husband for over 66 years to Jean E. (Johnson) McDonnell of Elmira, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. Born June 5, 1927 in Lansing, MI, he was the son of the late Frank and Sarah (Ferrel) McDonnell. Mr. McDonnell served in the U.S. Army during World War II as well as in the Korean War. He later worked for 25 years at Powers Manufacturing. In his spare time, he and his wife were avid amateur ham radio operators for over 55 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Harvey Jr. (Nancy) of Charleston, SC; Debbe (Jeff) Skovan of Marana, AZ; Kevin (Patricia) of Elmira; and Lisa (Nick) Jaramillo of Elmira; grandchildren Christopher, Stephen, Jennifer, Terrence, Erik, Brian, Russell, Dean, and Gina; great-grandchildren William, Collin, Dillon, Dominic, Brayden, Lillian, Iris, Kellen, and Jack; brother Robert and sisters Beulah and Sara of Michigan; long-time close family friends Gary and Sue Jerzak; and many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers Ferrell, George, Gerald, and Michael. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Reddy and his staff, Dr. Riley, and the staffs of the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Bath VA Medical Center Hospice/Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care and support. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Monday, March 28th from 5 to 7pm. His funeral service will follow at 7pm. Interment will take place in Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
