Obituary of Inez Purifoy

PURIFOY, Inez Of Horseheads, NY. Ms. Inez Purifoy was born August 1 1925, in Warrior, Alabama to Annie Lee Floyd and Edward Purifoy. She was predeceased by her parents and her eight brothers and sisters, most recently her brother Henry Purifoy of Denver, Co. She was also predeceased by her son Anthony C. Mayo. Inez departed this life on April 28, 2016. She leaves to carry on her legacy a daughter Vera Williams of Endicott, NY, and three sons Wayne Mayo of Appalachian, NY, Darnell Mayo (Lori Ann) of Horseheads, NY and Darryl Garner of Elmira, NY, She also leaves behind grandchildren Pamela Williams, Junie Williams, John Williams, Catherine Fulwood, Lynnette Kerwan, Maranda S., Rachael Babuta, Calvin Mayo, Michael Mayo, Tosha Mayo, Jessica Mayo, Dominique R, Taricka Mayo, Tyrell Garner, Jaden Garner. She had 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Inez came to Elmira in 1953 and worked for Holland-Johnson Dry Cleaners for 15years. She was a long life time member of the Queen City Temple #146 and served many positions. Inez opened up her heart and her home to many of the neighborhood children and was a devoted traditionalize as she spent much of her time organizing family gatherings and unions. The family wishes to send a special thanks to the Elcor Staff and to all who provided comfort and support during this time of bereavement. Ms. Purifoy's funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 5th, at 1 pm at Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
