Obituary of Richard K. Woodruff

WOODRUFF, Richard K. "Dictionary" Age 79 of Elmira, NY. He was born June 19, 1936 in Johnson City, NY, son of the late Kenneth J. and Katherine (Strilka) Woodruff and passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 unexpectedly, while surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Gary. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon L. (Miller); children, Rick Woodruff, Vicki (Ken) Emanuel, and Nick (Bobbi Jo) Woodruff; grandsons, Nicholas Woodruff and Matthew (Heather) Laganegro; great grandson Jacob; brother, Joseph Woodruff; and sisters, Darline Jones and Elaine Clark. Richard retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility where he worked for 25 years as the Head Welder. He enjoyed bowling, snow-mobiling, softball, mud racing with his truck Wild Thing, and spending time with his family at home. Richard served his county as a Marine and also enjoyed boxing in his earlier years. His family is especially grateful for the nursing staff, 5th Floor, at Guthrie Sayre for their compassionate care in his final days. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Wednesday June 1st from 10 am to noon. Richard's funeral service will immediately follow at noon. Committal prayers, full military honors, and interment will take place in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
