Obituary of Mattie P. Givens

GIVENS, Mattie P. Mrs. Mattie P. Givens of Elmira, NY went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. She was born December 6, 1933 in Dublin, GA, daughter of the late Samuel and Mae Etta (Fulwood) Wallace She married the late Arthur Givens; He predeceased her in 1993. She was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital, where she retired. Mrs. Mattie Givens was a member of New Jerusalem Church in Elmira, where she was a Mother in great standing. She is a former member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband Mrs. Mattie Givens is predeceased by her siblings, Mr. Willie Wallace, Mr. Sam (Eveyln) Wallace Jr., Mr. Herman (Matt) Wallace, Mrs. Mildred (Ernie) Williams, and Mrs. Christine Williams; along with her beloved daughter, Debra (David) Early She is survived by her children; Sam (Barbara) Wallace, David Wallace, Elaine Slade, Dora (Frank) Robinson, Tina (Howard) Milhouse, Corine (Lois) Wallace, Cassandra Givens, Reginald (Jill) Wallace), and Citashe Givens. Mrs. Mattie Givens has 27 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones. Family and friends are invited to visit New Jerusalem Church, 1320 Lackawanna Ave., in Elmira on Thursday, December 15th, from 10 am to 12 pm. Mrs. Given's funeral service will be held from 12 pm to 2 pm. Committal and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
