Obituary of Robert G. Harris
HARRIS, Robert G.
Age 79 of Elmira, NY. He was born February 28, 1938 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Albert Willard Harris and Louise Mae (Bockus) Harris Simonds and passed away peacefully at home in the morning on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother Jesse Harris; sisters, Madeline Aldrich, Rosemarie Williams; and a nephew, Larry Smith. He is survived by his dear wife of almost 17 years, Donna (Weed) Harris; daughters Colleen Harris (Naugle), Kelly Harris (David) Diehr and Jennifer Phillips; grandchildren Joseph Naugle II, G. William Naugle, Nicole Diehr, Cassidy Diehr and Angelina Phillips; great-granddaughter Inez Antonina (Nina) Naugle; sister Phyllis Flikkema; sister-in-law Dawn Bramble along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. He lived most of his life in the Millerton, PA area. He became a master carpenter/contractor, owning his own business. He loved hunting, fishing, his family and his pets and loved to joke. He had been a member of the Millerton and Big Elm (Daggett) Fire Companies. In later years one could find him in his garden, watching the animals from his porch, puttering around the house fixing things, woodworking, or grilling and cooking for his family and friends. In 2015, he moved to Elmira during his extended fight with lung cancer. This soft-hearted, fun-loving man was loved by many and will be immensely missed by all. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the loving family, friends and neighbors and medical staff of Guthrie Clinic and Hospital in Sayre and the CareFirst Blue Team that supported him throughout this difficult time. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and share memories at Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, NY on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 4 to 6 pm Bob's funeral service will be held at 6 pm. Rev. Douglas Hodge officiating. Bob will be laid to rest at Jobs Corners Cemetery, Millerton, PA. The family invites those wishing to join them to gather at the funeral home on Sunday, June 25th at 10 am to form a procession to the cemetery.
