Obituary of Daniel G. Waite

WAITE, Daniel G "Danny", Sr. Age 86 of Elmira Heights, N.Y. passed away on July 29, 2017 at Arnot Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1931 in Sayre, PA to the late Elmer and Martha Waite. Daniel is survived by his loving wife Kimberly Waite (Orvek) of Elmira Heights NY, son Daniel (Melissa) G. Waite Jr. of Elmira Heights, daughters Patti Paulo and Shari Rima both of Elmira NY, grandson Adam Waite of Elmira NY, his canine companion Taz, brother William Waite of Horseheads NY, and his special nephew Jim Waite of Elmira Heights NY. He is also survived by father-in-law James Orvek, sisters-in-law Teresa Waite and Linda Waite, brothers-in-law Harry Sewalt, Kevin Orvek, Michael (Michaelle) Orvek, Steven (Janine) Orvek, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Sarah (Cady), sisters Betty, May, Martha, Arlene, and Jane; and brothers Elmer, Joseph, Gene, Donald (his twin), and Robert. Danny served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6083 where until four years ago he was always upstairs in the kitchen for Memorial and Veterans Days cooking for fellow veterans. He was a life member of the Watkins Elks, and member of the American Legion Post 154 of Elmira Heights. Danny retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility after 32 years of service. At the Facility he was known as "COD" and worked in the center gate for his last position. He loved pitching softball for Old Heights Tavern with the young guys. He also loved golf, and was unable to play the past four years but he is up there playing now. It was Danny's wishes that there would be neither viewing nor services. Family and friends are invited to the VFW Post 6083 in Elmira Heights Sunday, August 6 for a celebration of his life from 1pm to 4pm. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.
