Obituary of Joseph J. Jankowski

JANKOWSKI, Joseph J., Jr. Age 85 of Horseheads, NY. He was born March 22, 1927 in Elmira, son of the late Joseph J., Sr. and Josephine (Borak) Jankowski and passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Elcor Health Services. He was predeceased by his wife Violet and is survived by his fiance Rebecca Hoffman of Horseheads; best friend Tim (Terri) Oman of Lowman; his beloved cat Amos along with several nieces and nephews. Joe retired from A & P Foods. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps serving during WWII and Korea. He was wounded twice, once at the battle of the Chosin Reservoir , and received 2 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the "Chosin Few" as a survivor of the battle of the Chosin Reservoir, a member of the American Legion Post 154 and the VFW Post 6083 both in Elmira Heights; a life member of the VFW Post, Elmira 901,the White Eagles Club and the Marine Corp League. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, February 19th from 12 to 2 pm. His memorial service will begin at 2 pm. Committal prayers, with military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
