Obituary of Stanley Platko

PLATKO, Stanley (Steve) Passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Fairview Skilled Nursing Facility in Groton, CT. Stanley was born on May 28, 1927 in Elmira Heights, NY to the late Anastasia (Kerik) Platko and George Platko. After growing up in Elmira, Stanley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and lived across the country in California, Kansas, Connecticut and New Hampshire before settling in Stonington, CT. He was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 61 years Joan M. (Erikson) Platko. He is survived by his two children, daughter Mary Ann (Platko) Scully and husband George, son Steven Paul Platko and partner Julia Isner; grandchildren, Stephanie Scully Wheeler and husband Michael, Christopher George Scully and wife Magdalena; great-grandchildren Carson Cole and Madelyn Mae Wheeler and Caroline Marie Scully; and many nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by brothers Peter, Paul and Frank and sisters Olga Mowchan, Tillie Spencer and Sonia Tostanoski. Family and friends are invited to his funeral service on Thursday, June 7th at 11 am in Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 140 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights, NY. Rev. Fr. James Worthington, officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.
