Obituary of Gail M. Prettyman
PRETTYMAN, Gail M.
age 79 of S. Main Street, Elmira, NY went to be with her Lord on August 6,2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 4th1939 to Leroy E. and Ethel M. Prettyman in Elmira, New York. She graduated from Elmira Free Academy and worked at A&P and Sears for many years. She was surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital Skilled Nursing facility. She is predeceased by her older brother Charles E. Prettyman and mother Ethel M. Holmes Prettyman. Gail is survived by her eldest brother Leroy “Skilly” (Julie) Prettyman of Endicott & sister-in-law Bea Mary Prettyman (Elmira). She has a host of nieces and nephews; Rena Prettyman (Elmira, NY), Roxanne Sams (Elmira, NY), Dawn Prettyman (Carlisle, PA), Patty (Tom) Hill (Elmira, NY), Robin (Francisco) Reyes-Rosado (Orlando, Fl.), Stephanie (William) Kendall (Maine, NY), Karen (John) Sturm (Terre Haute, IN), Jeffrey Prettyman (Endwell, NY), Anthony Prettyman (North Carolina), Kyle Prettyman (Philadelphia, PA), Amanda (Nsimba) Mawete (Woodstock, GA), Cheryl Prettyman (Woodstock, GA) and Debrah (Dwayne) Wright (Elmira, NY), great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and dear family friends Ira (Julia) Heyward. Gail was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira, New York where she sang in the choir and was church secretary. Gail will be missed dearly by her family. A special thanks to the team at Arnot Ogden Cancer center, and her medical team as she affectionately called “her kids” and “the dynamic duo” Dr. Roberto Mauri and Stephanie Bush PA. Thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility 5th floor, and special care giver Ashley for vanilla ice-cream every night. You all worked tirelessly to ensure she had the best days of her life, Family and friends are invited to visit Grace Episcopal Church, 375 W. Church St., Elmira on Monday, August 20th from 10 am to 12 noon. Her Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon. Rev. Dr. Howard W. Whitaker, Celebrant. She will be laid to rest next to her loving mother at Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira immediately following. In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to St. Josephs’ skilled nursing facility and Grace Episcopal Church.
