Obituary of Michael DiPetta
Michael (Mike) DiPetta Jr.,
Age 77 of Lowman, NY passed away on August 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family due to complications while enduring a short illness. Mike was born May 28, 1941 to Michael DiPetta and Mary (DePaul) DiPetta of Elmira, NY. He was predeceased by siblings Anthony (Lefty) DiPetta, Matthew DiPetta, Rose (DiPetta) Stuck, and Carmella (DiPetta) Criss. Mike is survived by his wife Mary Rosann (Laux) DiPetta, his son Michael DiPetta III (Erin, NY) and wife Lou Ann (Bunke) DiPetta and grand-daughters Rachael Snyder and Allison DiPetta; daughter Ann DiPetta (Trumansburg, NY) and husband Timothy Reynolds and grandsons Jack and Liam Reynolds; as well as sisters Lucy (DePaul) Zaparzynski, Christina (DiPetta) Mathews and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, dozens of cousins and hundreds of friends. Married November 4, 1967, Mike shared over 50 years of marriage to his beautiful wife Rosann. Their life was full of adventure: they loved riding in the Chevy Nova, going out for ice cream sundaes, watching the Yankees play and trips to the race track. They took long road-trips across the country and Mike raced his racing truck every summer until just a couple of months ago.
Mike served in the US Army from 1963-1965 during the Cold War in the Berlin Brigade, 4th Battalion 18th Infantry Division. He worked most of his life as a mechanic, truck driver and spent many memorable years at Matt's Service Center, a favorite gathering place for family and friends. Some actually got their cars fixed at the garage- but more often friends and family would stop in for a cup of coffee and conversation. Mike was well-known and loved beyond measure.
Family and friends are invited to join us for military honors on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis St., Elmira, NY followed by a gathering of remembrance at Hilltop Restaurant (Terrace Room), 171 Jerusalem Hill Rd., Elmira NY from 5:30- 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to the Golisano Children's Hospital, 601 Elmwood Avenue #655, Rochester NY 14642 or the Falk Cancer Center, Attention Tammi Loper, 600 Roe Ave, Elmira NY 14901.
