Obituary of Reginald D. Marshburn
Reginald D. "Reggie" Marshburn Sr.
Age 65, of Elmira, NY, passed away on September 8, 2018 unexpectedly at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Reggie was born in Clinton, NC to Theresa Marshburn on June 17, 1953. He attended Baltimore City College in Baltimore, MD before entering the US Air force. Upon discharge he settled down with the love of his life and started a family. They relocated to Elmira, NY in 1976 and made Elmira their home. He began working for NYS OCFS in 1981 as a Youth Division Aide and retired in 2007. In 2005, he earned an Associates' degree in Accounting from Elmira Business Institute that he used while a member of Faith to Face Ministries, in Corning, NY where he began his Christian walk with Jesus. Dad Marshburn, as he was known by his church family, had a great love for family and it is because of this love that many called him simply "Dad" or "Grandpa". He enjoyed spending time with his family and always wanted to take lots of pictures. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching sports (live and on TV) mainly football, basketball, baseball/softball, wrestling and boxing. He always was delighted to be able to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially his 3 little amigos Tray, Jackson and Julian. He always had a word (whether encouraging or chastising) to everyone he encountered and would talk with you about any and every subject. He loved Jesus and especially loved telling others about the One who changed his life and encouraged them to get to know Jesus for themselves.
Predeceased by sisters Dolores (Ernest) Hemmingway, Yvonne (Frank) Clark, granddaughter Brittany Marshburn, and Spiritual mother Ruth Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years Helen Marshburn, daughter Charmaine Marshburn, sons Reginald (Antoinette) Marshburn Jr., Zaun (Michelle) Marshburn; grandsons Anthony (Nicole) Marshburn, Terel (Mariah) Marshburn, Marcus Marshburn and Jackson Marshburn; granddaughters Xiara Barber, Que'Orah Marshburn, Maya Marshburn and Livia Marshburn; great grandsons Zaa'Vion Marshburn and TrayVion Vaughn; and great granddaughter ZaNiyah Marshburn. Reggie is also survived by three brothers Everett, Gregory and Julian Marshburn, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Family and friends are invited to Faith to Face Ministries, 35 Tuxill Ave, Corning, NY on Friday September 14, 2018 at 11:00am for a memorial celebration. The family would ask those who come for the service not wear black as this is a celebration of his life, not of his death.
