Obituary of Kathryn M. McGarrity

Kathryn (Kathy) Marie McGarrity, age 61 of Montour Falls, NY passed away Friday September 14, 2018 after complications from a long term illness. Kathy was born and raised in Elmira, New York. She is the daughter of the late Asberry Jr. and the late Thelma McGarrity. Kathy was educated in the Elmira City School District, was baptized at and attended SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in her younger years. She had a strong spirit, presence, and a beautiful face. She enjoyed great soul music, fashion, and modeling when she was younger. Kathy leaves behind her only daughter, Dr. DeShawn McGarrity of Rotterdam, NY (Schenectady County). Siblings include: brothers Gene R. Johnson, Richard McGarrity (Detroit), predeceased brother, Arvi McGarrity (Detroit), sister, Venitra Clark, Brother Cedric McGarrity, and sister Sheila Tamayo, all reside in Elmira, NY, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Because of Kathy's beliefs about death and dying, there will be no formal services and she will be buried at the convenience of her daughter. In lieu of flowers, in Kathy's memory, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 215 E. Church St., #100, Elmira, NY 14901, Care of Gateways Program. Dr. McGarrity wishes to thank the wonderful, attentive staff at Fred and Harriet Taylor Health for Kathy's care in her final days.
