Obituary of Robert L. Hopkins

Hopkins, Robert Lyman, "Bob" Age 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Bob was born on January 6, 1943 at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. He was the son of the late Lyman and Doris (Harris) Hopkins. Being the son of a career Army father, Bob lived all over the U.S. and Hawaii. He was a 1960 graduate of Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, M.D. After graduation he went into the Army. He is survived by his wife, Scheff of 53 years; their sons Brett of Elmira, N.Y. and Travis and Kris (Powell) Hopkins of Burke, V.A., and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Lee of Burke, V.A. Bob with his wife spent 33 years giving their time to the Boy Scouts of America in Maryland and Virginia, where both sons became Eagle Scouts. Bob, also an Eagle Scout received the adult award of the Silver Beaver while in Virginia. In 1998 Bob retired from the U.S. Governments Institute of Heraldry, VA., where he had been a heraldic artist for 33 years. He and Scheff then moved to Elmira. Those wishing to remember Bob may do so through a memorial contribution to Boy Scouts of America or National Cancer Society.
