Obituary of Hilda Rockwell

ROCKWELL, Hilda (Bowie) Age 106, formerly of Horseheads, NY. Hilda went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2019. She spent the last three years at Elderwood in Waverly, NY; she received excellent and compassionate care from the staff. Hilda is predeceased by her husband, Rev. L Paul Rockwell in 1963; her parents, Anna and Edward; her brother Harold Bowie of Marietta, OH; as well as her son-in-law John Ortell of Horseheads. She is survived by her daughter Rose Anna Ortell of Horseheads; grandson John Paul Ortell of Asheville, NC; granddaughter Andrea (Allen) Ortell DeLosa; and great grandchildren Madeline, Allen Jr., and John DeLosa of Mosherville, PA. Her grandchildren greatly enjoyed the stories she shared of growing up in the country, walking three miles to school, and attending a one-room schoolhouse. Hilda was a graduate of Marietta Ohio Business College and she worked in the purchasing offices of Remington-Rand and Kennedy Valve, both in Elmira. She was an active member in the Horseheads Eastern Star where she served as Star Points and as Matron. Hilda was a faithful Christian who enjoyed studying the Bible and attended church regularly until recent years. In her adult years she enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, sewing, and crocheting; she was known for her delicious pies. Family and friends are invited to visit the Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave. in Elmira, on Tuesday January 8th, 2019 from 12 pm to 1:30 pm. Her funeral service will be held there at 1:30 pm, led by Pastor Scott Wolf. Interment and private committal will take place at her family's convenience. Hilda will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira alongside her dear husband.
