Obituary of Alice Williams

Alice Williams Age 90 of Elmira, NY. She was born June 7, 1928 to Willie and Erma Saunders in Jackson, Mississippi. Alice's spirit departed on Monday, August 26, 2019. Alice worked in the medical field and often spoke of working for Mother Hale's House in Harlem, New York, taking care of drug addicted babies and their mothers. Her appreciation for others lead her into many other jobs in which she worked and took care of many. Alice enjoyed being an interior decorator and seamstress, she often made clothes for her children and decorated her home beautifully. Alice often spoke of her "picture window" where she hung beautiful curtains and decorated it with lights. This window was admired by all passersby. Alice was known for her big heart, robust personality and her cooking skills. Alice was the matriarch, the foundation of the family. Alice loved all her grandchildren and knew how to keep each one in line. Alice was always available to give advice to her grandchildren as well as great words of encouragement. Alice was preceded in death by Willie and Erma Saunders (parents), Ella Wells (sister), William Saunders Jr. (brother), Jesse and Joseph Funney (sister), Franklin Saunders (brother), Emma and Aladdin Redmond (sister), Vernon Williams (son), Robert and Victoria Williams (son), Ronald Williams (son), Ivan Williams (Grandson), Rachel Harris (granddaughter) and Essence Williams (great granddaughter). Alice is survived by her husband Robert Williams, son Victor Williams, daughter Deshanda Williams, daughter Lynda and Richard Carswell and daughter Sharon Williams; 20 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave. Elmira, on Sunday, September 1st from 12:30 – 2:30 pm. Her memorial service will follow at 2:30 pm.
