Obituary of David Thomas Blackman

David Thomas Blackman was born August 23, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. God called him home December 6, 2019 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. At an early age, through David's maternal grandmother and great grandmother, he learned about God's love, grace and mercy. David was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Sunday school and sang in the children's choir. He graduated from George Westinghouse Vocational-Technical High School in Brooklyn, New York. He also graduated from Corning Community College and Elmira College. For a short time he worked at McDonald's, Thatcher Glass and A & P. As a student at Elmira College David worked with Dr. Lindsey at the Green House. He liked taking care of plants and flowers. After 38 years, he retired from Elmira College. David loved helping others, family, friends and relatives. He had a special bond with his brother Anthony. He showed love, respect and compassion toward everyone. We thank God for lending us David for 66 years. We love him, but You love him the most. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, December 21st from 2 to 3 pm. His funeral and committal services will follow at 3 pm. Rev. Caranell Parks will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. We appreciate all acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
