Obituary of Ruby Wells

WELLS, Ruby Age 90 of Elmira, NY. She was born April 30, 1929 in Irwinton, GA, daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Smith) Givens and passed away Friday, February 7, 2020at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Felton A. Wells, Sr., in 2016. Mother Wells was a proud home maker. She was a faithful member of Monumental Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Board, and the Kitchen Committee. After serving Monumental Church for 52 years, she joined her son and daughter-in-law at New Jerusalem Church where she served as a church mother. Mother Wells loved to cook and entertain people in her home. She was very hospitable and did not mind serving others. She was a very proud and courageous woman. Most of all, she loved her family and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children Felton J. (Ella) Wells and Minnie (Doreen) Daw all of Elmira, NY; Grandchildren Ruby (Pendexter) Mack and Felton Jack (Nichol) Wells II all of Elmira; Great grandchildren Jonathan D. Mack of Elmira, Lovenia J. Mack of Horseheads, Tyrese Anderson Wells of Elmira, Nigel, Claira, Alexis, Trenton Daw; and her goddaughters, Teri Bowers and Chanel Colon; and one godson, Carlos Colon. She was predeceased by her brothers: George Frank, Bo Thomas, Walter (Della) Thomas and Henry (Corinne) Givens; and her sisters: Mattie Lou Brown, Nellie Williams, Silla Givens and Dollie Wells. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law: Willie (Catherine) Wells; and sisters-in-law: Mattie Baker, Mary Wells, and Sara Thomas. She leaves to cherish her memories one living sister-in-law, Ella Mae Ashley of Dudley, GA; special cousin, Wilbur Coley. Her nephew, A.J. Thomas, and Elder Esco Smith of Elmira, NY, both who she loved as sons. She also has her legacy remembered through a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her church family. Thanks to the staff of the second and sixth floors of the Chemung County Nursing Facility. The family also gives special thanks to Lisa Sawyer and Derek, second floor nurse. A Celebration of Life service will be held at New Jerusalem Church, 1320 Lackawanna Ave., Elmira on Friday, February 14, 2020. Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 noon with her service starting at 12 noon. Rev. Ella Wells, her daughter-in-law, and Rev. Pendexter Mack, her grandson-in-law, will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Repast will be held at Word of Faith Church, 356 West Thurston Street, Elmira, NY.
