Obituary of George Washington

WASHINGTON, George Age 58 of Elmira, NY passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 4, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife Deann, parents Early Washington and Mildred Williams, brothers Early C. Washington, James Washington and JB Johnson, sister Lenora Givens, son-in-law Beau Simpson and special friend Melvin Phillips. He is survived by his children Willie (Lisa) Washington, Georgianna Simpson, Miranda (Cyril) Pegues-Coleman; godson Melvin E.C. Phillips; grandchildren Kiendra and Ethan Simpson, Willie Washington ,Trinnity, Fayt and Dasiel Pegues-Coleman,; brothers Joe (Eunice) Washington, Esco (Minnie) Smith, Jimmy (Helen) Smith; sisters Ella (Felton Wells, Mae (Joe) Aponte, Bertha (Eddie) Wynn and Annie (Harry) Jackson; aunt Mattie Givens along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friend Vevelyn Burns. He was a track athlete who excelled in the high jump; semi pro basketball player; a highly respected youth coach in baseball, basketball and football. He was an avid NY Giants, NY Yankees and Chicago Bulls fan. Family and friends are invite to his memorial service on Monday, August 12th at 12 noon at Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira. Elder Pendexter Mack will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
