Obituary of John P. Backer

BACKER, John P. Age 60 of Elmira, NY. He was born September 29, 1956 in Elmira, son of the late Harry D. and Mary (Schiefen) Backer and passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at home. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Katie and Jason Becraft of Elmira; son Trevor Backer of Elmira; grandchildren Avery and Eastyn Becraft of Elmira; brothers and sisters-in-law Harry and Diane Backer of Elmira, Dennis and Marcie Backer of Rochester, NY and Danny Backer of FL; sister Margaret (Roy) Backer of Elmira; longtime friend Kim Backer of Elmira; dear friends Dee Cady and Morgan, both of Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his granddaughter Delanee Becraft. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved nature. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Palliative Nursing staff for all their support and care over the years. John's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 18th at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin St. in Elmira. Committal and interment prayers will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery with full military honors.
