Obituary of James Joseph Gilboy
GILBOY, James Joseph
age 51 of Zephyrhills, FL He was born May 25, 1965 in Elmira, son of George and Alice (Palladino) Gilboy and passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 unexpectedly at home. He is survived by his children Ryan James Gilboy of Rocky River, OH and Catherine Marie Gilboy of Eden Prairie, MN; parents George and Alice Gilboy of Zephyrhills, FL; sisters Frances and Barbara Gilboy both of Zephyrhills, FL; brother Joseph Gilboy of Horseheads; several aunts, uncles and cousins and his beloved dog Marty. He graduated From Edison High School in 1983. In high school he attended Boys State and participated on the baseball and swimming teams. While a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Sill, OK, he was an ATC Tower Operator and received the Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Rifle, M16 Expert and Army Lapel Button. He was employed with the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller at Memphis Center and Cleveland Center. After retirement to Zephyrhills, FL, he lived the life of leisure. He enjoyed following all sports, especially the Yankees; playing golf; working in his yard, doing crosswords and spending time with his family and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, January 20th from 4 to 7 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Saturday, January 21st at 9:15 am, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Charles Borromeo Church. Rev. Scott Kubinski, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested for veterinary care for Jim’s beloved dog Marty. If contributions exceed Marty’s health care needs, the remaining contributions will be donated to the Humane Society. Please make checks payable to Frances Gilboy “for Marty’s Health Care”. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
